best grange hill generation

my vote goes to the genaration of, gonch, ziggy, robbie, callie, fay.

reply

Nope, it's when Tucker was a leather clad sixth former, Gripper was the scariest thing on the planet and Zammo was in his first year.

reply

1-tuckers era
2-rolly browning

reply

91-93 seasons

reply

If you think the 91-93 series is the best gh generation then you haven't seen the previous episodes from the 80s which are far superior. My vote goes for gonch and ziggy era. I like the zammo era more than the tucker era.

reply

I think its down to age, isn't it? I was the same as as the Zammo/Gonch geaneration. I remember being so young, I was really shocked when Claire Scott and Stew-pot got caught snogging in the art cupboard, and got the cane!

reply

It's totally down to your age, by far the best era is 81-86. The arrival of Zammo, Annette, Fay, the start of stroppy Suzanne, Claire/Stewpot, right up until Zammo on drugs

reply

Tucker years, then Zammo and ending with Imelda. Times change, I know, but the current series is pale in comparison to the 80s episodes.

My favourite period was definitely the early 90's (Malcolm Parrot!!) but I remember a time when they showed mid 80's episodes alongside the current ones, and they compared favourably. Only an idiot could possibly even suggest that the same would apply now. Bringing back Tucker was a good move, but the rest has just descended into juvenile antics, which only work when balanced with more teen/young adult related issues. The "Double Dare" gang were wonderfully childish, without being annoying. Byker Grove shifted demographics to try and appeal to the kids, and now its been cancelled. Thanks BBC, you sure know your stuff!

Zammo, Jonah, Gripper, zammo's bird...top generation.

reply

Gripper etc. - but I may be biased, as I am slightly in love with Gripper's henchmen, Denny and Georgie!

reply

the ziggy gonch robbie era for me not forgetting hollo holloway played by the wonderful bradley sheppard shame he quit acting to become a school teacher gonch always looked lost without is sidekick hollo

reply

its got to be 95-00 arnie dill christopher nathan max spencer etc.

reply

from the start in 78, right up to 87.. after that it just got silly..

reply

Having just watched them all again as an adult, I'd say: Tuckers, Zammo and the Double Dare Gang were the most memorable.

I'd have to say the first generation--after all, I'm getting uncomfortably close to the big 4-0. And besides, as I've said elsewhere, the CBC only aired the first few seasons/series here in Canada. (And the first season or two of Tucker's Luck? I seem to recall seeing it. Then again, maybe I'm just remembering Tucker as he got a tad older on the original show, leather jacket and all.)

Does anyone besides myself remember having a crush on Lucinda Duckett...?

reply

the original generation, and then generations 3 - 5 had to be the best.

I was too young to remember the Tucker era, but I do remember the Gripper Stepson, Pongo, Stewpot characters. But my favourite of all had to be Ziggy, Gonch, Robbie, Vince, Cleaver era.

reply

Indeed i've go to agree with baridbel, it has to be the Gonch, Ziggy, Robbie, Callie era. Though I could'nt class Fay as part of this era - though she was in 2 year'swith the other mentioned characters!

I think it'd be more fair to say the Ziggy era plus other's like Chrissy, Justine, Matthew, Susi and Tegs!

reply

I've been going through the series again on Youtube since April and have to admit, I'm enjoying the change of pace and characters between 1978 and the mid 90s.

Looking back now, I don't remember much after 1991, but there's still some interesting characters from the 1990-1999 era, even if you missed it the first time round.

The golden period dipped in 1990, because too many new characters were introduced and the Ziggy, Gonch, Calley group were phased out, while Justine's group/Jacko and co took center stage.
