He is listed in the credits as Tucker Jenkins and often gets called Tucker from friends...but also gets called Peter by teachers and other students? Is it ever explained why?

His real name was Peter, his nick name was Tucker. There are several characters in this series that were known by nick names by their friends.

I can't confirm this, but at a guess, Peter Jenkins was nicknamed Tucker because of the amount of 'Tuck' he would consume (Chocolate, Crisps etc=Tuck, hence the term 'Tuckshop'). I guess he had a fast metabolism and was always snacking, hence why he was always skinny. But yeah he could eat for England.

I could be wrong but it's a sound theory.
