Let's rate the 5 Bradford girls on the hotness scale!

I was just hitting puberty when this show came on, so these 5 had some importance to me. Who were the hotties, and why?

1. Elizabeth was the hottest to me. She had the long straight 70s hair and she always wore tight jeans that showed off that nice bubble butt, which was one of the primary reasons I watched the show. Of course, her being the closest to my age, meaning that I might conceivably have a shot, mattered also.

2. Nancy was the prettiest, but I didn't care for her personality too much. And she was too old for me. But still, she was blonde, and when you're 14, that was all that mattered.

3. Susan was a cute redhead, and I dug her.

4. Joannie was not very attractive physically, and I hated her hair, but I liked her personality.

5. Mary was the oldest, and had that deep voice. I didn't find her attractive at all.

I was 9 to 13 when this show first aired, approaching puberty near its end but not just there yet, then I saw it again in syndication in summer of 1987, when fully grown, and I can do this. My order:
1. Elizabeth
2. Susan
3.Joanie
4. Nancy
5. Mary

1.Nancy was the most attractive to me. Very pretty.
2. Elizabeth is cute, and loved her long hair.
3. Susan was ok.
4. Joanie was quite plain but I am running out of Bradford girls.
5. Mary was manish looking and the least attractive.

Susan wasn't the hottest, but I had a big crush on her at the time so she was raised in my opinion. But clearling Elizabeth and Nancy were the cutest.

In the kingdom of the blind, you're the village idiot.

reply

Nancy was too hot for words! elizabeth a close second. Susan had a great personality, and mary was okay in an andyrogenous way, joannie was fugly!

reply

Nancy was the best, Joannie number 2, then Elizabeth, then, Susan.

And if I absolutely have to count her, Mary was last. She was so much like a man in apperance, and constantly bitched about how men were keeping her down, that I'm convinced she was a lesbian.

reply

Nancy was clearly the hottest, followed by Elizabeth. Susan was cute in her own way. Joannie was not physically good-looking, but at least she had an outgoing personality. Mary, I agree, was mannish - she looked better in the early seasons, before she cut her hair; after, she looked like she was 45. I also think she was a closet case.

reply

The hottest girl on that show was actually David's wife Janet. But of the five Bradfords, I'd say Elizabeth, Nancy, Joannie, Susan and then Mary.

reply

Joan Prather (Janet) was drop-dead beautiful. Betty Buckley, on the Today show the other day, mentioned that Joan Prather was one of her favorite guest stars on the show.

reply

1) Nancy
2) Abby
3) Susan
4) Joannie
5) Mary
6) Elizabeth

reply

Yeah, I shoulda thrown Abby into the mix as well, but she was like a mom figure to me back then, and I wasn't into MILFs as a teenager. However, looking back now, hells yeah, Abby was smokin'.

Mary was the least "pretty" of the 5 daughters, but she wasn't bad looking. I think the way that the character was written -- when she wasn't scolding people, she was insulting them -- required Lani O'Grady to carry herself in a way that made her seem less attractive than she truly was. In the first season opening credit sequence (the one featuring Diana Hyland), when they're posing for the photo, she wears her shirt tails tied in front, giving a glimpse of bare midriff, is smiling and isn't wearing her glasses, for an overall sexier look than she sported in most of the episodes.

Nancy was probably the most conventionally pretty -- a 1970s teenage blonde fantasy come to life.

Elizabeth had a touch of the angry/brooding teen and, with her dark hair, seemed to have more depth than Nancy. While very attractive, I think her appeal was probably strongest with angry/brooding guys. She was the youngest daughter, but there was something intimidating about her.

Joanie's looks were less conventional than Nancy's and Elizabeth's, but I think she was really quite lovely. I like that the writers seemed to make her the most sensitive of the daughters, which fit in well with her desire to act.

Susan, the tomboy, was cute, spunky, and not without her own brand of appeal. She's the type of girl that a guy will think of as just a friend and then, one day, realize that he's been madly in love with her from the day they met.

reply

1. Susan - cute, fun athletic and red hair

2. Mary - love that sexy voice

3. Nancy - hot but annoying at times

4. Elizabeth - great hair, nice bod but I always felt a little weird looking at someone that young

5. Joanie - nothing attractive about her at all

If this series were on today you would be expecting the episode where Mary introduces her "special" friend to the family. Joanie is a 4. The reason the scale stops at 10 is there is a point where a woman does not get any more beautiful than Nancy. Elisabeth is almost there. Susan has a different kind of beauty that is even more appealing to me. Those big soulful eyes and that sweet voice are amazing.

reply

LOL Yeah, those "special friends" just weren't too available back then to please that politically correct crowd, right?

hmmm Merle the Pearl says that Susan's the prettiest one of all - but she's no match for him. Not even for Merv the Perv. Merle the Pearl and Merv the Perv are both hot - and she's just too far out crazed with her UFO abductions - while he is just way too hot.

Joannie and Elizabeth look really pretty on other things - like "Love Boat" - and Nancy really heats up the screen with Christopher Allport - as a bad girl and bad boy of "Murder, She Wrote."

Grant Goodeve and Dick Van Patten also do "Murder, She Wrotes" - while Mary also does a "Love Boat" - but again without a special friend type. Oh well.

Tommy looks better on "Charles in Charge" than anywhere else. After that, he packed on the pounds and became a certifiable right wingnut to wreck the country some more. Nicholas probably never looked better than on "Eight Is Enough" - from which very few emerge unscathed.

Nancy and Elizabeth make the show seem the realest when they wear their nightgowns on the staircase as they eavesdrop on the goings on downstairs.

That makes "Eight Is Enough" seem like a warm, friendly, true-to-life show because sisters do things like eavesdropping on staircases in real life - even in open view of the goings on downstairs - and then they think that they're getting away with something. That's hot.

Mellow Salutations!

reply

1) Nancy (by far the hottest)
2) Elizabeth (very pretty)
3) Joanie (intellectually stimulating but kinda plain and pointy)
4) Susan (almost there, but something's off)
5) Mary (might as well be a man)

Have five sisters ever looked more different than the Bradford Sisters? Wasn't there an episode when they had a party and one of their guests told every Bradford they were his favorite?

1) Susan was my favorite. She was an attractive natural redhead with bedroom eyes. I think she is what most guys like. And that is an attractive woman who does not act like a stereotype of an attractive woman. I really like Susan Richardson, the actress who played Susan Bradford. She seemed very sweet when I saw her on talk shows and game shows. I remember in the '80s when she claimed Korean movie producers held her against her will. A lot of people thought she was a liar. I have experienced some things in my life that are very hard to believe. If Susan's story was not accurate maybe it was because of her mental health and substance abuse issues. She looked super hot when she played a groupie in the movie "A Star Is Born".

2) Nancy was a cute blond without much substance. I wonder if it was an act.

3) Elizabeth was very cute but acted young. Maybe it was because she was. She reminds me too much of my sister. That is a personal issue but still a turn off.

4) Mary is underrated. She did have a deep voice and was not very feminine. But she was not ugly. She had a beautiful smile. I would have melted if she ever looked me in the eyes and smiled at me. Lani O'Grady passed away in 2001. She was only 46 years old. An autopsy revealed she died accidentally of multiple drug intoxication.

5) Joanie was maybe a little too thin for me. That may have accentuated her nose. She did have a great personality. I know that is a huge cliché. Most women I have dated were very dramatic. I would not want to date an actual actress. Joanie and Mary were the smart ones. I probably say many things over the course of a day that would have ticked off Joanie. That would be a problem.

1) Susan (Totally hot red head and has a fire bush I’m sure)
2) Elizabeth (Nice ass and hair)
3) Nancy (Gotta have a blonde)
4) Joanie (Nerd!)
5) Mary (Who let the horse out of the barn?)

Being a girl when this was on, I never gave it much thought. Joanie was always my favorite, but I guess Nancy was the hottest. She was very pretty. Next would be Elizabeth. She had all of that great long, dark hair. Next is Susan, followed by Joanie, then Mary.

reply

Elizabeth tops them all.

reply

I can pretty much agree on your list
Elizabeth the hottest by far, also very attractive Nancy and Susan, not much separate the 2 (literally would be nice) then Joanie and Mary not unattractive but not nearly as the others. The latter 2 have gone nude on film, its a shame the others haven't.

Elizabeth
Nancy
Susan
Mary
Joanie
