Riding side-by-side
Here's yer sign.
shareWhat are you babbling about?
You can't go wrong drowning politicians Henry. The Black Swan (1942)
Riding side by side is very dangerous and experienced/professional riders don't do it. They always ride staggered. Except for hot dog riders and, of course, in Hollywood.

I'm just a patsy!
I've noticed that too, Jon and Ponch would literally be shoulder-to-shoulder riding down the road at the same speed.
That would be dangerous and maybe impossible at the speeds they would've been going.
This may be a stupid question, but when the camera is on top of them and they are riding shoulder to shoulder were they really on the freeway or did this show use green screen? I Know it was made 40 years ago and that technology wasn't used often but it was used for background when shooting driving scenes in other shows. I was just curious because even I know they seems really close to each other and I'm not a motorcyclist!
shareMany scenes were filmed using them "riding" on a trailer. You can see this on occasion when they are stopping and do not use the front brakes (the right lever on the handlebars), which does the majority of the braking on a motorcycle.
See one of the trailers here:

Dean: I am wearing sunglasses at night. You know who does that? No-talent douche bags!
I just watched the pilot episode on ME TV and at the beginning they had a close up shot of them actually riding side-by-side on a city street. The dialog was obviously added since you can't converse in a normal voice over engine & traffic noise wearing helmets.
