I never watched this show growing up but it's on MeTV now and I have actually enjoyed catching episodes of the show and started watching it pretty much every day and loved it. That is until I got to season 6. This season is horrible. There is one episode where the cops are ninja's with Fred Dryer which is so dumb and than there is an episode about aliens which must have been made to capitalize on the movie ET's popularity. Ponch's new partner Bobby is the worst actor ever also and the show sucks without Larry Wilcox.

I completely agree with you. I enjoy the show for the first few seasons maybe a handful of episodes from the 4th and 5th seasons but that 6th season has a lot to be desired. The show had run its course and the network who aired Chips just hung on to the show a season to long. Really shows Larry Wilcox was an important part of the series as John.

I agree. The partnership of Jon and Ponch was the heart of the show, and Larry carried a big part of the show as the more serious one and Erik was the comic relief in a way.

Yes, there were crappy storylines later on but I could stare at Ponch all day!

I grew up watching reruns in the late 80s/ early 90s never really paid close attention to it until Me-TV started reruns. But season 6 is the worst as far as writing and story goes it was just too over the top and unbelievable.

I had never watched the final 2 seasons before now. Season 6 was so bad it was barely the same show! Once I spotted Cousin Oliver, I knew it was off the rails. Now that season 1 is playing, it's back to normalcy. Ponch is a better character with a reasonable amount of humility.
