I just acquired and watched the first three seasons of this series. I'm curious about seasone 4, which seems to have taken place serveral years later, from what I can establish. Does anyone know the exact seasons this series ran?

Series 1, 2, and 3 first aired in 1978, 1979, and 1980. The series was supposed to end there but then unexpectedly picked up again for a fourth series in 1988. Series 5 and 6 then ran in 1989 and 1990.

anyone know why they did not bring back Carol Drinkwater as Helen in Series 4-7?
shareI´ve read an interview with her, where Carol Drinkwater says that she received a couple of ill-natured mails and was insulted in the streets by some fans regarding her short affair with Christopher Timothy (who had already split up with his wife at that time). She also had a relationship with Peter Firth, that had been on and off for a very long time.
In short her image eventually was noticed by the studio-bosses, which may have had an effect on her decision to back out from the series...(the last part is my own conclusion - I can´t proof it .)
