Tristan

Does anyone know if Tristan appears in Series Six of All Creatures Great and Small? I have ordered it from Amazon and it will be available in July. But I have a suspicion he is not in this series and that would be a big disappointment for me since I think he is an integral part of the program and without him it won't be nearly as much fun.

This is based on my memories of the original broadcast, but I don't think Tristan was in series 6 - Calum took his place. However, he did return for the final series.

Thanks so much! Calumn is a very poor substitute for Tristan so I think I will cancel my order for Series Six. Hopefully, series seven will come out in my lifetime!

speaking of Tristan - what are some good Tristan episdes? Is he in the first episode and/or season? I've never seen this series, but I'd like to.

I was named after this character, so it would be nice to see why my mom liked the character so much :D

An episode that shows his more serious and vulnerable side is "Puppy Love" in series two in which, after being notorious as a lady-killer, he falls in love. Also, in series 4 (don't remember which episode) he does his imitation of the "mad conductor" which is screamingly hilarious. He is portrayed in the series as a witty, fun-loving, vulnerable, good-natured goof-off. To me, as portrayed by Peter Davison, he is the most lovable of all the characters. I'm not surprised your mother wanted to name you after him. I take it you haven't seen any of the series? I have the whole collection up to series 5 and usually watch one episode every night because they make me feel happy.

Lol I was to, only they spelled it Tristin, for some reason. But they told me specifically it was after his charecter.

Haha, I named my cat after Tristan too. Both are very lovable - the cat and Peter Davison's character. Not to mention cute!!
Hmmm... only seen up to the second series but there are some great Tristan-moments in quite a few. As mentioned, 'Puppy Love' and the one after that are very good Tristan episodes and show his sweet-natured and rarely-seen mature side. Also highly recommended:
'Practice Makes Perfect'
'Faint Hearts'
'The name of the Game'
'Merry Gentlemen'
But so many more if only for a couple of great sub-plots involving him.

If you want a rough guide, I have a couple of links to episode descriptions:

I think Peter Davisons Character Tristan is one of the best in All Creatures :D he adds humor to it and it's hillarouse when he does the "Mad Conductor", i think Peter Davison is a good Actor, Exspecially as the 5th Doctor in Doctor Who one of my favourite Shows and he's good as Detective D. Davis in The Last Detective !

Does anyone know how I could obtain Peter Davison's mailing address? Does he have a fan club or would anyone know which network his new show is on? The name of the show is The Complete Guide to Parenting. Maybe I could write to him through the network.

Tristan, and Siegfried were named after characters in Wagner's operas. Their parents loved Wagner so they got stuck with those names. Watch the first episode and you'll see him explaining it to James.

In the last series, Tris has joined the Ministry of Agriculture and doesn't appear at Skeldale House very often. Calum Buchanan has taken his place.

Peter Davison (real name Peter Moffett) has done many series on the BBC. A very good actor.

Does anyone know why Tristan isn't in most of series 5 and apparently all of series six? Is it because he gave it up to work in Dr. Who and other roles? In my opinion, he left a very big hole in the series that was not filled up by the other players.

reply

I'm not completely sure why Davison opted out of series 6, but I suspect he just had too much work on. He had left Doctor Who by then, but at the time (1989-90) he was starring in the detective show Campion, and that may have prevented him playing Tristan at that point.

From what I remember of the books, Tristan joined the ministry after the war and wasn't around very much anymore. I've seen only a few episodes of the fourth season, and nothing beyond, so if they brought him back as a full-time vet in the practice, they must have given him Calum's part. Or just made stuff up.

There was another assistant mentioned in "Every Living Thing," of whom James was very fond, but he was never well-described.
