1) In the opening credits for the first three seasons, as the car comes up the hill we see a chimney with two birds sitting on it. What kind/species are the birds?
2) One of the episodes has not one but two black (bruised) eyes in it. To whom do they belong?
3) Tristan's birthday is in what zodiacal sign?
Provide your answer(s) and documentation to any or all of the above questions and give a new question (or several).
Wow, some tough questions - do you really have answers to all of them?
1) absolutely no idea, I can't even see any birds!
2) I can only think of the episode with Richard Carmody, there are 2 black eyes but we only see one: Richard Carmody's (from his encounter with Dent's sow) and Gobber Newhouse's wife (beat up by her husband, but we don't actually see her just hear about it) the only EpisodeI could think of.
3) no idea. I can only think of Tristan's birthday episode where he gets his guitar - I think it was in the winter, or late autumn (?) as he got a woolly scarf from Helen. I'm guessing scorpio
New questions:
4) In the episode "Practice makes perfect", when James is standing in for Angus Greer he visits a farmer called Mr. Adams. In what episode does Mr. Adams also appear?
5) There was a pretty big goof made in the series regarding Richard Edmunson's father. Can you name it?
6) What is the name of Tricky Woo's pen-pal and what breed is he?
That's the right episode, with Gobber Newhouse's wife having the black eye; Tristan also has a black eye at the end so I guess that makes three in the episode.
Yes, when Tristan gets the guitar, there's a segment at breakfast with Siegfried reading the newspaper, where he reads that William Butler Yeats has just died. Yeats died January 28th 1939, and Tristan's birthday is within a few days after that, so Tristan is an Aquarius.
The only answer I know to your questions is about Tricky's penpal. His name is Bonzo Fotherington and he is a "lonely Dalmatian." Mrs. Pumphrey later gets Cedric the boxer because she fears that Tricky has been traumatized by the death of poor Bonzo, and she wants him not to be an "only dog" anymore.
still can't see the birds - are you sure it isn't just the shape of the chimney pot?
HOw does Tristan get a black eye at the end of the episode? I must have forgotten that bit...
Wow, I would never have remembered that bit about Yeats - excellent!
Answers to questions 4 and 5:
Mr. Adamson also appears later on in the series, in the episode where the Darrowby Bell ringers have their last meeting before the war. He is the old man who makes the speech on the beer crate.
In one of the early episodes, before James starts going out with Helen, Tristan explains how Richard Edmunson took over his father's Newspaper when he died a few years ago. In the episode "Judgement Day" we see Mr. Edmundson Senior as president of the Darrowby show, very much alive.
