Camera on Car Window?

I was just watching the series 2 episode "Pups, Pigs and Pickle" and near the end, where James is driving away from Miss Dooley's house, there is a small black box attached to the top of the window on the drivers side and what appears to be a black cable running down the right hand side of the car in front of the door. Does anyone know what that box is? It looks like it could be a camera to get a close up of Christopher Timothy driving the car or it could be something else. Has anyone else noticed this?

That is the motor for the windshield wipers. In older cars (from the 1930s) windshield wipers might not have been standard equipment. In open top cars the motor would be attached to the top of the windshield (the easiest place to put it) and the wire for power would be run down the side and connected to the car's battery.
