Random Questions

I forget what season it was - 1 or 2 - but they made a big deal about the front room of the house, and how it was locked up and unused. Did anyone notice/care that after this episode the NEVER used it ever again? I thought this was VERY strange!
-
Also - did you notice how the area under the stairs changed over the years? It used to have a door under the stairs, which disappeared.

The biggest changes took place, I think, in the surgery itself. I liked the way it was when the show began - white walls, the no smoking sign. Then it went all-dark wood, then back to a ligher off-white later on. I thought that was odd although I'm sure it was just normal for a TV show to update the set(s).

And how awesome was it that Mrs Pumphrey was on for the duration of the entire series? She was old when it STARTED! I'm also surprised how many of the characters were there during the final season that were also there during the first. (Aside from the original beloved Helen, of course!)
-
Has anyone read the books that the original Helen and/or Christopher Timothy wrote? I'm looking for Chris's book "Vet Behind the Ears" but I'm afraid I'll never find it.

You are more observant than I am! I didn't pay that much attention to the surgery or under the stairs (my eyes were always glued on Tristan ...). Anyway, re: Mrs. Pumphrey, yes it's wonderful she was in so many episodes. I loved the whole bit about Tricky Woo and especially Hodgekin. I loved him! I started laughing the moment he appeared on screen. He was my favorite character after the main cast.

I have Chris's book "Vet Behind the Ears" and I enjoyed it for all the behind-the-scenes tidbits. Quite interesting. Keep looking on ebay and all the book sites.

I didn't know that Carol Drinkwater had written a book about the series - do you know the name of it?

I liked Hodgekin a lot too - he had VERY few lines until the final season I think - where he got drunk in the living room at the surgery and cracked up laughing when Mrs. P arrived. I'm amazed they kept so many of the same actors after all those years!

Carol wrote a book - not about the series, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to mis-lead you. She wrote a book called " The Olive Farm: A Memoir of Life, Love, and Olive Oil in the South of France". After her work on the series and breakup with Christopher, she bought and ran an Olive farm in France. I think she has written other books too? Anyhow I am interested if anyone has read her stuff.

For me, Hodgekin didn't have to "say" anything - I started laughing as soon as I saw him. His face was priceless.

I have read a couple of Carol's books. I think she's done very well with them and many people enjoy them. I thought they were okay.
