'Horse Sense' missing 3 minutes.

When "All creatures" was first aired there was a small scene in which James
meets Diana Brompton while waiting for Siegfried to arrive. This scene cannot
be found on the DVD or any other later airing that I've seen. Anyone know why it disappeared? My guess is to conform the length of the episode with all the others in the first 2 seasons, which is about 50 minutes (except episode 4l)Any other ideas?

I have no idea why it was cut out, but I'm glad someone else remembers it. I was beginning to think that I was just so familiar with the books that I only thought the scene was there.

Thanks for replying...no, it was definitely there. James refers to the visit when Siegfried arrives, and she (Diana Brompton/Georgina Melville) is named in
thje credits.

Someone on our forum recently noticed it too! See the link below.

I remember James meeting Diana Brompton while she is waiting in the living room. He tries to entertain her with some rather dull small talk, asks her whether she is waiting for Siegfried and she replies "no, for a train"! When Siegfried comes back and asks whether James had introduced himself (or something likewise) she says rather condescendlingly and through her nose: "it's been RIVETING". Is this what you can't find on your DVD? Or was there another meeting, because my DVD has this scene. I'm not sure whether it was in the very first episode though...

The scene you describe was in episode two. Her first words when James says 'hello' are 'o, it's you'. So that implies that they have met before and that must have been in episode one. So daddytolman's scene is still missing :-).

And in the first episode, when Siegfried finally arrives for his first meeting with James, James tells him that Diana Brompton had stopped by while he was out.

I have the US Region 1 complete DVD box set (Series 1-7 plus Specials) and the full scene is included. No idea why they should cut it on Region 2 discs but there again, why the hell wasn't the complete set available in UK years ago? Is there one available in UK now?

reply

In all the times I've seen the first episode, on dvd and when originally aired on PBS, I've never actually seen her in it, even tho she is mentioned and is even noted in the closing credits. My guess is that her scene in Horse Sense was a last minute cut and they didn't see any sense in redoing the credits. daddytolman describes the scene where she is waiting for Sigried and that scene is indeed in Dog Days, the second episode, not Horse Sense as was noted in the heading.

IMDB notes her as being in Horse Sense but they may have been just going by the credits. I'm sure they don't actually watch all this stuff to make sure the credits are accurate.

Take care...
Alan

I never saw the scene or the person in question, but I will check my copies of both episodes. I had to have that disc replaced as was, so who knows maybe my better copy has it. I hear the British Mega Set has more discs than ours (33 vs 28).

Well, only a FEW years late.... :)
The UK channel "Drama" is now repeating ACGAS, and That Scene was in the TV repeats.

I'm wondering whether, as angharad83 mentioned back in 07 :), this scene was put in a different episode for some reason, although I believe (but not sure) in the book it happened on the day James came to Skeldale the first time. I too remember seeing that scene in another episode and thought it was hilarious.
