Siegfried and Tristan

I love this TV series and the books a great deal. I love Siegfried, James, Tristan and Helen. One of the things I love most though is the relationship between Siegfried and Tristan.

I love the friendship between Siegfried and James too, there are many touching scenes between them. The wonderful chemistry between Robert and Timothy makes you believe their friendship, but for me the series highlights are the scenes between Siegfried and Tristan.

They bicker, argue, tease and Siegfried can be incredibly tough on Tristan, despite all of that though they love each a great deal. I find their relationship fascinating, they are brothers but Siegfried has also had to be a surrogate father to him and is always concerned for him and has his best interests at heart. The scenes between them are some of my favourites of the entire series, Robert and Peter have wonderful chemistry and you really believe how much Siegfried and Tristan love each other.

One of my favourite scenes is where Siegfried leaves to go off to war in Big Steps and Little 'Uns. Siegfried is trying to keep control of his emotions saying goodbye to Tristan, yet you can see how much he cares for him and how worried he is that this may be the last time they will be together, it's one of the most touching moments in the series.

I also love the scene between them in Brink of Disaster, where Siegfried and Tristan are by a stream and they're talking about where they live and the war, Siegfried begs him not to do anything foolish or heroic during the war.

What are your thoughts on their relationship and what are some of your favourite Siegfried and Tristan scenes?

I love this series too.

I think it was always better when Siegfried was on screen. He had a presence very unlike the others. There was always something going to happen and it usually happened to his often hapless brother. He did love Tristan and care for him deeply.

I think his relationship with James was very special and the episode where he let him become a full partner is my favourite.

Not saying that the series was boring when Siegfried wasn't around, he just added something to the mix that nobody else could do. Think it was his British upper middle class imperiousness, heavily diluted by a big heart and genuine love and concern for people.

I've only seen s1 so far, but for me, that's the perfect description!
