I found it strange they used german weapons, (and a sten in the last scene) Did they not have guns of there own time or is it normal that they used weapons of ww2 in the late 70's in Italy.

Actually it was Spain not Italy and seeing it was only 33 years after the war then
it would be probable that they would be using these, especially on a small, fairly remote island.
spain was still under franco when this film was made and the british army used stens up till the 70's so it wasn't unusual. the mauser was a bit strange though but like i said it was under franco's regime and he probably was still using them. he was very anti-communist so they wouldn't have any ak47's and its unlikely usa would sell him m16.
