Is this movie any good?

This movie recently came out onto DVD in Australia (my country) and I'm just curious if this movie is any good or not? Especially since this movie is based on a true story and I do like some movies that are based on true stories. So should I get the DVD and see it or skip it? Oh and how true is this story?

I like the remake better than the original. The director was confused with this and decided to make it somewhat a comedy at times. I felt like I was watching Smokey and the Bandit at times with the wack job driving. And typical old school acting, it felt really goofy. For a thriller/horror, it didn't feel like it at all.

State champ in martial arts, trained with firearms, I eFF'n dare you!

Watching it for the first time. Really feels dated with the acting and way it is filmed. Feels like a 50s movie at times. The comedy bits really stick out and feel wrong. This is based on a real event. I went in expecting something like Halloween, but at times it feels like a TV movie of the story. Haven't even really seen anything R worthy yet. It is extremely tame IMO. It really isn't worth it. I've seen the true crime tv shows that are better done. Don't waste your time with this. Really isn't worth it even on a bad movie mocking level.

Pretty scary in my opinion. What's scarier is the guy was never caught. If he was it was for another crime. The ending for the movie was made up because the guy was never caught.

I haven't seen the 2014 movie but I really like this movie. I have the DVD/Blu-Ray combo and before that I had the VHS. If you can get it I definitely recommend watching this movie. One person on this thread said it feels dated and what not, but I honestly don't think it does. Anyways, I'm late to your post but like I said if you can watch it I recommend it.

I found it to be very creepy, myself. The killer is menacing and mysterious and there's a certain scene in a farmhouse that had me on the edge of my seat. The documentary style helps sell it, imo.

As for the true story aspect, be aware large details were changed and this is more of a retelling in spirit rather than fact.

Its an ok movie. acting isnt great and the use of comedic scenes didnt suit and shouldnt been in the movie. still interesting and the killer I reckon was a big influence of Jason Friday 13th movies that came out several years later. In the early Jason movies he wore a sack, hood over his head as well.

This movie lacks a lot of artistic care. But it is kind of entertaining. The killing sequences is not bad at all.

It's more than a bit dry and boring.

While he was only the director here, I've seen Charles B. Pierce's Boggy Creek II: And the Legend Continues on Mystery Science Theater 3000, and the jarring narration and somewhat disjointed storytelling is definately on display in both films.

It's edited strangely in some shots, but there's clearly some competency with the framing of most scenes, which is a lot better than you usually find in a b-film like this.

I do have to say that the quality of the print is amazing, I really wish this kind of care could be taken in all film releases.

No, not the mind probe!

I think it is. Creepy and atmospheric, and being based in reality makes it even more terrifying imo.

On a side note, the remake was really good as well.

I think it's a good, creepy slasher film. Especially seeing as how it was based on a true story. If you're into slasher horror movies I think there's a chance you'll like this.
