How Different is The Novel To The Movie?

Is there much difference between the Dennis Wheatley novel and this movie? Thinking about buying the novel.

Totally different. It's some years since I read it and I failed to recognize the movie plot apart from the title. My memories of it are that it's a totally different story. That said I would recommend reading the book as I thought it was quite a decent read.

The novel is pretty bad too, as is everything Wheatley wrote, apart from The Devil Rides out, which is a superb page turner. Most of his books are all about stiff-upper lip chappies saving the day. The racism & sexism are pretty blatant. Although I don't condone these attitudes they aren't necessarily off-putting in a book, it's just that his books are long-winded and boring.

Is the book at least more coherent than the film?

reply

Read it years back, but yes, my recollection is that it is a more complete work and more coherent than the film.🐭

Thanks very much. Unfortunately, the coherence bar is set pretty low for the film.
