Christopher Lees best Hammer Film of the 70's, no doubt !
He was so good in this, at least he wasn't a background character as he was as Count Dracula.

shareHe is terrific in this film. He truly drips with evil.
"She died as she wished to die, and i will not have this ceremony profaned by any druken tears LOOK AT ME"
Love that flashback scene with him and Denholm Elliot in the church, both actor's on the top of their game.
This has to be his vilest villain, sadly it's so overlooked.
I think Christopher Lee did his best 1970s horror films for other companies rather than for Hammer. If I've got my filmography correct his only other films for Hammer in that decade were three in the Dracula series. Admittedly his more involved role in 'To the Devil a Daughter' was one he could be more proud of. But I actually preferred him in 'The Scars of Dracula.' He is a Lugosiesque Count Dracula in that 1970 film and I find him very enjoyable to watch in it.
shareIndeed, Christopher Lee was great in this, he was also great in Rasputin The Mad Monk, another Hammer treat.
