For the record- Squirm was officially R rated
I noticed that IMDB has SQUIRM listed as being rated PG. Wrong.
When SQUIRM was released to theaters in 1976, it was most definately rated R. I remember very well, because the R rating kept me and my friends from being able to see it.
In 1978, SQUIRM was re-released as a "second-feature" (for those old enough to remember Double-Features). When it was re-released, it was rated "PG". My best friend and I went to see it about a dozen times, and this is what we discovered:
The actual 35MM print of SQUIRM appeared to have been physically altered. There were three scenes that were "cut & spliced" out of the movie, leaving about one second of the sound track out-of-sync for each splice. The scenes that were spliced out were:
1. About 10 seconds of the scene where Roger was attacked on the boat.
2. About 5 seconds of dead Mr. Grimes showing the worms in his body.
3. About 2 seconds, when Roger first brings his head up from the "sea of worms".
I'm 95% certain that these are the only missing scenes. Apperently, cutting these scenes allowed this movie to get a "PG" rating.
The DVD and prior videos that I have seen ALL have the complete scenes with no cuts. Of course by today's standards, the uncut version would be a PG-13 now.
For the record.
