Be it film prints, VHS, the original camera negatives, BetaMax, DVD, Laserdisc, VCD - whatever... should be collected up, loaded into a giant cannon and shot into space.
I get the impression Pineapples saw this on Mystery Science Theater. I never understood why this movie was featured on there, or why it rates so low on IMDB. It's a cheap drive-in movie about killer worms, and it borders on being a spoof. How can you mock a movie that mocks itself?
"Squirm", in my opinion, is a well-made "B" movie. I can see why some critics complain about the 'Hardy Boy's Mystery' theme in the first half of the film, but its forgivable for the simple fact that- the characters were interesting, some even likable.
Unlike many of the drive-in type movies of the 70's, this one has some high quality elements, such as the movie's score. Also, the lighting on scenes and the overall cinematography was good as well. The acting was either good (Don Scarnido), or funny in a "so-bad-its-good" way (Alma/Fran Higgins).
Then, there's the typical, non-related "love-ballad" with the ending titles (typical of 70's B-movies), but this song is actually GOOD!
...How can I hold you longerrrrr......
This movie will always be two thumbs up for me, and should never have been part of the MSTK series. Thats just my opinion.
ahh come on! look, I saw this movie on WTOG Channel 44 Tampa Bay, FL's very own "Creature Feature", hosted by Dr. Paul Bearer Circa 1982(I was 7) on a sunny Saturday afternoon:
Point is, this movie is like part of my horror movie heart, so I can feel for those who love this movie, and its ilk. If it wasn't for this movie, I would, to this day, never know what an egg-cream is, lol. That being said, I can not see any reason why this movie should not have been used for MST3000. I def has the perfect set-up for it. Screaming killer earthworms. A "city mouse in the country". A bunch of red neck extras with no acting talent given speaking roles. Need I say more???
