Was this a Broadway Musical ? If not....

It should be. It can follow the trend of turning movies into musical. If Lestat (Interview with a Vampire) is coming to Broadway this spring, why can't this? At least it already has a score. Throw in a couple of more songs and voila- a new musical.

reply

It already has. Pip Burley has turned "Slipper and the Rose" into a stage production. Epsom Light Opera Company in the UK did a tryout production a few years ago, but Burley is still apparently in negotiations to make the performing rights available.

reply

I've seen an amateur production of this and it is available for amateur companies to perform in the UK from NODA.

Not sure about other countries though, or about plans for a pro version.

It has been on the London verson of brodway for quite a while, and was brought to America for the US premire at the Hale Center Theater in Salt Lake City, Utah in Febuary of '05 (I believe it was '05). It was wonderfully delightful, but killed the scene where Cinderella and Edward are re-united, reverting to a poorly put together version of the old story (the shoe fits)

reply

As far as I know it's not been done professionally in the UK yet - still being negotiated...

Oh, you're kidding! The scene where Cinderella walks down the aisle in place of Edward's betrothed bride still gives me chills even today. It's one of the best plot-twists in SLIPPER; I can't believe they'd cut that moment out of the stage version!

reply

They do have that scene, but they don't have the whole dancing in the field when John finds her, and all of that.

reply

That was the best part. Cinderella cavorting around in the grass with her slipper- great!

reply

Well, in this one she's in town while everyone's trying on the shoe, and Ed appears and that freaks everyone out, so there's a big fight to get the shoe. She just kind of steps away, shocked, and John and Caroline notice, and for some reason realize it's her, so they get Ed's attention and point her out, so he takes the shoe and puts it on her... and they're together. Beyond corny, and not at all proper!

reply

Bahaha the Hale Centre Theatre??? Wow...I totally work for them!!! (Not the one in Utah, but the ...branch... in Arizona. lol I guess you could call it a branch. Not really, but yeah. I've been in a bunch of their shows...

Yeah it was the one is SLC. I've told one of the directors for the one down here he should do it, but he said he had heard it wasn't very good... although, I kind of agree, because they SCREWED UP the scene where she finds the slippers
