Rather daring implication for a 'family' movie...
I've always liked the denouement of this particular take on Cinderella...the question of what happens if the prince marries a commoner, and how they manage to resolve it.
But I gotta admit...the bit that kind of bowled me over was the implication Edward made during the awesome scene where he's confronting his father: "I'll play my public part to the altar, but no farther. Your royal house will live with you but die with me."
Now, that's a pretty daring subject for a so-called "family" movie to touch on...that the prince refuses to consummate his marriage! I always admired the fact that this movie didn't pull any punches in that regard.
(Though I suppose if any kid watching it with you ever asked what he meant, you could just tell them, "He's saying he'll marry for the kingdom's sake, but he refuses to have any children with her," and leave it at that.)
