Hi fellow SATR fans! I think it's interesting -

(A) That the stepmother and the sisters were at the wedding even though Cinderella had been exiled and the bride was a different woman. Why would they still have been there?

(B) This may be a trivial point, but was there some significance to the shot of the stepmother crossing the bridge, going into the house, right before "Once I Was Loved"? I always thought it was interesting that the director took the trouble to show the stepmom at that point.

1) They were all social-climbers, so they'd naturally jump at the chance (any chance) to go to a royal wedding.

2) The Stepmother was shown to display the direct contrast of emotions following the death of Cinderella's father. During the song, we see Cinderella making her way to the graveyard to lay flowers on her father's headstone; wheras the Stepmother is seen strolling about as though nothing tragic has happened.

1) I think it's more than just the fact that the fam was social climbers. I think it was a similar situation as with the ball - any of the nobles who wanted to and were high enough could go to the wedding. A lot of the royal weddings had the local nobles in attendance.

Super late reply here, but there was some significance to showing the stepmother leaving the house: she had forbidden Cinderella from leaving, so Cinderella could only sneak off to visit her parents' graves when her stepmother was away. That's why she has to rush back to the house, and why the stepmother scolds her when she returns.
