Ron Howard ruined the movie.
Out of all the characters, Howard was the only one miscast.

Stop trolling.

I thought Ron was perfect as the adolescent. He was rude, confused and a symbol of the new generation coming of age.
shareAll I could see was Opie trying to play a character he was too smooth for. I do respect his abilities as a director and the fact that he took advantage of starting in the business as a child actor rather than letting it ruin him.

Ron's performance in this movie bugs me, too. He was a great natural talent as a little kid but somehow lost his ability as he got older. He was okay in comedies but seems awkward and affected in a dramatic part like this one.

He got a big gig in Happy Days soon after this.
shareI thought he was excellent. One of my favorite movies.....watch it about once a week, LOL........can pretty much say the dialogue with just the soundtrack on! Can't imagine how anyone could have done a better job than Ron. I have done hundreds of screen caps of this movie. His expressions, movements, etc. were perfect. Yep, they sure chose well when they chose him. He and Duke were to do another movie together. Duke already had the script picked out and told Ron about it at a party or gathering. He said Ron and he were the only ones to do it. His health began failing not too long after that. He and Katherine Hepburn were looking for a script to be called "SOMEDAY", I think, in reference to their last conversation in Rooster Cogburn. KP
shareI have to agree. He seems just too contemporary here, and a bit awkward, trying too hard -- you can see him acting, which calls attention to itself & breaks the flow of the movie. I don't fault him for trying, he's clearly doing his best, as professionally as possible -- but it just doesn't work.
shareI don't think he did that badly, but other young actors of the time could have done better
You don't have to stand tall, but you have to stand up!
Ron Howard was really annoying.
