and it seems nobody posted the fact that this Rocky movie is based on a real boxing match, where a white undistinguished boxer brought down the black reigning boxing champion of the time - Mohammed Ali - but eventually lost the match. I don't know the underdog's name.
shareA couple of corrections...Chuck Wepner was a professional boxer and not an amateur (He's actually still alive today, I believe). And he was never a threat to beat Ali...in fact, Ali pretty much beat the tar out of him but Wepner kept fighting. He didn't quite make it to the end of the fight, though...the fight was stopped around 15 seconds before the end.
You are correct that the Ali-Wepner fight was a big inspiration for "Rocky."
