I wasn't that impressed

I grew up watching Clint Eastwood movies, wait, that was Charles Bronson. Same difference...

Heh, heh.

Actually, I had virtually never seen any Eastwood movies until recently. However, my name is Clint so I've always felt a strong connection with Eastwood.

I have loved various Clint movies - but this one didn't do much for me. Loved The Good The Bad and the Ugly and the Spaghetti westerns but Josey Wales wasn't much - maybe that's because I expected more.

The main thing I noticed was that Wales didn't seem to be actively protecting anyone or really going for justice, he just seemed to be sort of drifting.

Which I guess could help his character because he isn't out to kill people but death finds him - he doesn't start trouble but he finishes it.

I would have liked to see Wales really kick butt when the young lady almost got raped. I guess I watched too much Bronson, not enough Clint.

What hump?

Yeah, that's what is cool about Josey Wales... he wasn't a superhero, trying to right everyone's wrongs.

Great classic movie... one of the best westerns I've ever seen.

Well, he is on the run from authorities. That's an important plot detail. Hence, The Outlaw Josey Wales. And yet he ends up helping people time after time again throughout the film. Tries to save his former comrades in arms, tries to help the kid, helps Lone Watie and Little Moonlight, saves the Kansans, helps build their ranch, risks his life to negotiate with the Comanches to ensure the Kansans' survival and saves the lives of two guys who were buried up to their necks, etc.

I guess the very next scene was just too long of a wait for some viewers.

Wales was a good man turned gunfighter, yes he was a cold blooded killer but there was good in him that occasionally was expressed through mercy for the weak
