Artfully shot small amount of nudity ... and scary. I think Josie was about to shoot her:

I thought I remember reading something where Eastwood thought the original director, Phillip Kaufman, was unprofessional during this scene - not in what he actually shot (who knows what his footage looked like), but his actions behind the camera. Kaufman was infamously fired after a week or two.

As is, shot by Eastwood, the scene's unrestrained, primitive and animalistic brutality is quite frightening. Locke (despite being about 32 during filming) conveys quite a sense of beauty and innocence.

... thirty-one, I think (filming occurred during the fall of 1975).

Either way, she wouldn't have necessarily been past her physical peak in terms of beauty, but as you indicate, there is a sense of virginal innocence to her that many actresses would not be able to project by that age. In The Gauntlet, though, Locke projects a very different sensual vibe in credibly playing an intelligent hooker, a testament to her versatility as an actress, or to the versatility that Eastwood was able to draw from her.

He wasn't going to shoot her you idiot.

He was going to shoot the idiots who were attacking her.

...and calling someone you don't know an idiot make you feel good?

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!
