Where did the dog come from?

Was it Lone Watie's dog? Or Little Moon Light?

The dog shows up before they encounter Little Moon. His first scene is when you see the dog sleeping besides Watie.

I just caught the movie again. I may have missed the scene of the dog sleeping with Lone Watie.

The first time I saw it was when Little Moonlight followed Josey back to camp from the trading post. They are all sitting by the fire; she's just jabbering along and feeds a scrap of something she was roasting on a spit to the dog, sitting beside her.
