The ending was sort of confusing. So the Scotland Yard cop was the real Lord Archibald Marian. Fine and dandy, so who was the impostor that was killed at the start of the film? There isn't really much info.. Other than this question I liked the film a lot.
The only fans of most film remakes are only those who make them.
It was confusing. I believe the imposter Lord Marian (killed at the beginning) was part of the plot along with the Baron and Lady Tobias (William Berger, Evelyne Scott), and perhaps even the wife Cecilia and the housekeeper Deborah. That's why they were all killed by the real Lord Marian who was posing as Major Brooks. Fake Marian made the will giving everything to his "dirty mulatta" daughter Rita because she was the only one not part of the plot. And so he assumed if he was murdered it was certainly one of the other co-conspirators.
