Am I The Only One Moved To Tears By The "Mad As Hell" Scene?

The man's sanity is disintegrating on live TV and the network execs are overjoyed. It rings so true considering what "reality TV" has become. I can easily see a day in the not-too-distant future where someone actually dies on live TV. God Help Us.

If you were observing this nutty planet, would YOU want to make contact?

That already happened:

The whole suicide/murder on TV concept and plotline in the film were based on the Christine Chubbuck suicide. That's probably what the link is that the other commenter replied to you (haven't looked at it). That was a local newscast, Chayefsky made it nationwide TV.

I'm all right, I'm alllll right!

I never get tired of watching that scene. Finch was magnificent and deserved his Oscar he didn't live to accept.

Absolutely!

I had goosebumps and I cried. This movie is an absolute masterpiece. I'm 35 years old and, shamefully only saw it 1 hour ago! It's so scary how Paddy Chayefsky predicted so much and it's all come true! Sidney Lumet would have to be in the top 5 film makers of all time, and there's no weak links anywhere in this film. And that ending- brutal.
