Just Saw It .... Oh My!

A few weeks ago I saw Gone With The Wind and the last ;34 minuted blew me away! Rhett and Bonny came back from Paris, Scarlett lost the baby, Bonny died jumping the pony. Every word Sarlett and Rhett said hit me like a ton of bricks! I asked, can you "grow into a film"? Can it mean more as years pass by??? Oh yes my friend, it can!! Network tonite hit me hard! They things they said. The things they did. .... They never said the word "Terrorism" (ISIS) once (they didn't know...) but otherwise it's there: Oil Crisis, Unemployment, Big Business, it's all there. Crumbling marriage, Corporate ruthlessness. It's in this film. 39 years, and this film is real and alive! It lives and breathes!! Bravo!! Excellent!! Everyone involved, you were brilliant!! John

I' m sorry. I stand corrected. I made a mistake. At the very opening of "Network" William Holden and Peter Finch are discussing "The Death Hour", assassinations, mafia hit men, "Sunday night", "It would blow Disney off the air", "terrorist" is part of that discussion. I made a mistake, didn't notice it. Sorry. John

reply

Well, don't let it happen again, John. ;-)

Now you know why it's a classic.

This film completely blew me away the first time I saw it, I could not expect a film could be like that, it's Amazing, brilliant, maybe one of the best Movies ever made in Hollywood. I speaciially liked Diane.

I love Gone with the wind too but dislike the ending though.

I can say i already thought about every single thing that was scripted in this movie, and i just saw it 30 minutes ago. Is a really good film nothing against, the best of his kind no questions ask, but having the knowledge of a problem doesn't mean the problem is solved. People know how and when to mention the society problems they just don't give reasonable solutions. Example, we know our food is not good to eat, but you can please tell me the solution to feed seven billion people on earth. We know TV is 90% propaganda but tell me how can we not remain in the total 20/30's ignorance if we don't have a source of mass information. The movie is good because it speak the trued, but if you think harder is also trying to change the way you think and that's what TV does... you should remain faithful to the way you think, that's why i don't read books, or watch television, i use my filter in everything i see or hear. Why should i read a book about someone opinion? Why his opinion is better in someway then mine? Who, and based on what that is decided? We have to think that we are not special and our opinion is one in seven billion opinions, in a world with 4,6 billion years.

I'll tell you another movie I saw recently, "This Property is Condemed" with Natalie Wood & Robert Redford. People hate it! Tennessee Williams one act play (he hated it). I liked it. Edith Head costumes, great sets, the South, what's not to like?? Then I saw whole film...not a happy ending, maybe people are right, it does stink. Check it out. I got it free on demand. What do you think?!? John

The ending of This Property Is Condemned took a lot of guts - it was very uncommon in those days to put an unhappy ending on a movie. I think it makes the movie better.

PS Natalie Wood is so good!! What an actress. Very underrated, disrespected. There is some powerful acting in this film (This Property is Condemned). Wish Natalie Wood could have had stronger parts. ...... John

For f_ck's sake! You just spoiled Gone With the Wind for me. Please, use a spoiler tag...

Anyways, I completely agree with you about the end of network. The way they callously decide to kill him, and only worry about how it might detriment or benefit the company was really stark, to say the least...
