It's a fantastic cameo. Funny to think just a couple of years later the same actor would be playing the bumbling Otis in Superman, with his "yes Mr Luthor", "right away Mr Luthor" lines...

Ned Beatty made that dialogue not sound entirely ridiculous. It's great writing, begs to be read, but unless read by a professional orator, is kind of clunky when spoken.

But go to the quotes page and read it, you will remember how Beatty said those lines and you will read it like that in your head.

That is a performance.

Fantastic lines marvelously delivered! It was catching a snippet of this speech on a TCM preview which made me drop everything and make watching "Network" a priority! This speech ought to be read into the Congressional Record!

As for who is tampering with the primal forces of nature...look to the oil companies and carbon emissions for that!
