Trip down memory lane
Hi everyone!
I saw the movie for the first time on a horror special weekend. For what I expected to be a silly way to pass the time while folding laundry, I was surprised.
It brought back more than a few uncomfortable memories of the junior high from hell I attended. I like the comment someone posted about the absense of teachers. No matter what you endured in the hall, at lunch, break, locker room, etc., it seemed there was never anyone to interfere with or hold accountable the actions of bullies. And part of the terror was the "you tell, you die" mentality. Fortunately, my story had a happy ending and no one died! A few nice kids got sick of seeing me terrorized and took me (kicking and screaming) to the councelor's office and told my story for me. Bullies are kind of like cockroaches, shine a light on them and they run. Funny, after they all got hauled into the principals office no one messed with me too much. By that time I had some decent friends and was no longer the new kid.
There will always be power struggles as long as there are people. Fortunately, in the wake of Columbine and other disasters, schools are looking at bullying more seriously. My children's school, and others, are having training, peer mediation and other programs to keep bullying in the light. Now I see kids coming forward on the playground to tell the teachers or parents when someone is putting them down or hurting them. It gets handled and the message is that aggressive or belittling behavoir isn't tolerated. No perfect answer, but better than ignoring it.
Anyway, my little ones ran in right around the end and I had to change the channel! The last bit I saw was David locking the couple in his workroom and leaving. Can someone fill me in on how the movie ended?
Thanks,
DC
