Is there any way to buy a GOOD transfer of MACH?

Apparently the rights to this film are in the public domain, which must be why the makers haven't bothered making a "legitimate" DVD with a widescreen transfer, taken from a digitally-restored master. When I think of all the dreck that has been lovingly restored onto Blu-ray, it boggles the mind why this cult masterpiece hasn't been given the same treatment.

Anyone know if it's available in a good transfer outside of the U.S.?

It's not public domain. The producer, Harold Sobel, owns the rights and is hoarding the original negative, much to the consternation of both director Rene Daalder and the surviving cast members, who are very much proud of their work on their film and have been wanting to work on a DVD.
