Biggest Payoff (Audience Moment)

It’s not the ending, which I won’t discuss.
Of course Frankenheimer and Goldman were hoping for that.

Nope ... the big stand-up-and-cheer moment comes earlier.
One of the most satisfying movie moments of my youth.

I don’t think anyone will have a problem with this.

Does it involve....Janeway?

It does indeed.

But which scene?

I'm dying here...

I think you mean Schlesinger. John Frankenheimer did not direct Marathon Man. John Schlesinger did.

When the street gang breaks into Babe’s apartment (after he pays them to), Janeway, who has been staking it out, casually pulls out his gun. “All right, let’s go,” he says listlessly, as if talking to teenagers skateboarding too close to his Benz. All turn, pull their guns, and point them at Janeway — all but one. The leader, still busy breaking the door lock, turns to Janeway — tools still in hand. “Blow it out y’ass, muthuhf*ckah!” Audience cheers.

Never felt more love for a gang of punks.
