The loitering latinos
Why were they standing there on the street not doing anything except bothering passers-by, passers-by who were ignoring them, minding their own business?

shareTheir presence seems without purpose but-as another imdb user has pointed out in another thread-they will,or should I say,he-the chief of the gang-will turn out to be the one most helpful character in Babe's nightmare.Because he sees everything as fun unlike Babe.Babe has been called ''paranoid'' but I wouldn't think so,anyway not more than Janeway or,certainly,Dr.Szell.He certainly seems affected by his father's past which haunts him to his college student years while,on the contrary, the chief Latino:
''Danger ain't the catch;it's the fun''.
You must not be from New York.
shareThis movie had no wasted scenes, the mouthy kids were to play a key part in saving Babe. They also afforded a comic moment in a pretty grim film. Another example, after his brother's death, Babe soaks in a bath whilst wearing his Rolex, presumably he forgot in his pain and sorrow to take it off, but - the watch played a key role when he sold it to the cabbie for a handful of change. I love movies that never waste a scene.
Earth. Welcome.
It's interesting to note that Tito Goya who played Melendez was arrested in 1985 for a murder committed by him and his brother in 1978. He died in the Fall of 1985 before going to trial. His brother got twenty years according to imdb. The murder would have been a couple years after "Marathon Man" was filmed. Hmmmmm. Life imitating art?
shareYou obviously never lived in NYC in the 70's.
shareforget the time and place. loiterers being obnoxious and without reason are present everywhere.

you get it enough where I am and I am far from being in a big city. especially get it from tourist trouble makers in the holiday seasons quite a bit more so.
