wasn't Dustin too old for this part?

He was 40 but supposed to be a graduate. Shouldn't it have been an actor in his twenties? Looked strange to me

reply

I guess he apparently looked younger for his age, in the Graduate he was 30 and was supposed to be in his early 20s.

Y'know, I could eat a peach for hours

reply

He was a doctoral student. Most Ph.D. candidates aren't in their 20s.

reply

He was hot...especially in the sex scene...whew

reply

In the extras that are on the DVD there is footage of Hoffman rehearsing scenes with the other actors. You learn that Hoffman created a backstory for Babe making him a Vietnam veteran. So obviously he was thinking about the age thing as well.

reply

He's about 30 in the movie, considering we know that his dad's suicide during his childhood occurred 20 years ago. 30 is not ancient for a grad student.

reply

Dustin Hoffman was born in 1937, making him 39 when MM was released and portrayed a Ph.D. candidate.

reply

In Robert Evans'book, he told of the methods to make Hoffman look younger. Something to do with teeth and hairline as men age.
