He had a mom and dad, so I wonder if they were runners who survived Box or what is society that survived outside the dimes but eventually unraveled, from what I've read her the book is very different so wonder if there's an Old Man at all.
I'd say the old man eats whatever it is that the cat's eat.
The movie deviates massively from the book. I'd say treat them separately.
For me the Old Man represents hope, a son left to his own devices with no real purpose to existence until Logan and Jessica happen upon him, now he is key to giving direction to humanity.
That Old Man must have been pretty good at catching mice... Guess he's a construct for the movie only, guess he could represent hope or maybe just normal life .
