There were thousands of people who had no idea of building, farming, hunting, preserving food or any function helpful for organising society. All they did all day was work out, have orgies and watch people get blown to pieces with lasers. After their city was destroyed i doubt they could possibly last much time after that
I'm sure the more cunning and intelligent people could start figuring things out, and subsequently teach others. They would obviously start off as hunter/gatherers and building simple tools, after that begin a foray in to agriculture over time.
There would definitely be hardships. But when survival is on the line, it's amazing what people can do, even though they don't know it.
People are capable of learning, when there aren't too many distractions. Desire for little things such as food and shelter can inspire people to start solving problems. Some would of course die, but some always do.
It's easy to assume, imply, and just to think that people would learn how to live outside the dome just as Logan and Jessica did in speaking with the Old Man.
Jeez what a stupid remark.
"All I want in life is a thirty share and a twenty rating."

...to kill other people. As humans, we were never really inspired to do those things, it came from instinct and took thousands of years to learn and do it effectively. I could be inspired to go build a house right now, but you probably wouldn't want to live in it when I was done.
Hunting is extremely difficult if you've never done it before, even with a gun. The sandmen would end up running the show because they knew how to kill. The society would devolve into a totalitarian one where the weak die long before 30.

They had the old man, and they had books. I'm certain that gave them enough of a clue to learn how to survive. And if not, we did it before back when we were cavemen. It can't be too difficult for people to learn all over again how to survive.
Wow. I would hate to be in an apocalypse-type situation with some of you people. Have you no faith in human instinct or intelligence at all?
So apparently, to this way of thinking, African American slaves who'd been emancipated from the south shouldn't have made it either? Because although their struggles were certainly much different from these "dome-dwellers" they had to learn to live in a society where their every move was like carrying two tons of bricks up hill. And although it still is (arguably, to smaller degree), they have survived.
Survival is instinctive, this is the entire point of the movie! Runners run because they want to live.
And yeah, sorry if you disagree, but people are capable of learning, and adapting. It may take time, but so what?
