Remake back on

A remake of Logan's Run has been in the works for over a decade now, but it seems like it has some new life. According to Deadline.com Colony (2016) co-creator Ryan Condol is writing the new script (based on a treatment by Simon Kinberg *shudders*). I've never watched Colony, but I'm happy to hear the remake has some traction again. Here's hoping they stick a little closer to the book this time.

There's two ways to do LR:

1. a shallow Hunger Games vehicle for even shallower characters

2. or as you hope, closer to the book, which would make it a wonderful examination of the worship of youth culture as a misbegotten solution to our problems

Put your money on #1. Youth culture ain't ready for self-examination. See what I did there?

Oh yeah, I'm reasonably certain we're gonna get dystopian-lite with an iTunes ready soundtrack, but every once in a while Hollywood surprises me.

I'd have much better hope for LR as a TV show. The newer networks are doing great things these days.

I can see LR as a 10-part series. CGI is so cheap these days it's no longer a stumbling block and a multi-part show would give us time to go deep into the background and implications of the book which even the authors glossed over.

Agreed on all counts. Logan's Run is a short novel, but the premise lends itself to some expansion.

I don't know that we'd need multiple seasons, but a single season, 6-10 episode run? Bring it on.
