Attention: Warner Bros. even Ted Turner "lost" Logan's Run (1976)

Please consider this a serious and formal fan request for someone at Warner Bros. to investigate my informative claim. A mission to see if any lost footage from this film you have the rights to can be recovered from Canada. Also, I read Ted Turner unsuccessfully searched high n' low for what was lost before he sold.

I've seen the unedited Logan`s Run in Canada. If memory serves me correctly, this version was broadcasted for the Saturday late afternoon movie once or twice a year. The time-frame was during late 70s to early or even mid 80s. This version had more footage than the Special Advance Preview print and formatted for television. Below, simply one example I remember well-enough. This entire scene is not present in the Official Theatrical Cut.

Happy turn:
The 2ND WOMAN was trimmed-out from the SAP according to fan research from Virtual Vikki.
The 2ND WOMAN in pink-orange on the left was present in the Canadian unedited TV version.

FRANCIS
and that's my friend, Logan.
(as she acknowledges
the introduction)
We're celebrating his next in line.
Carousel - Arcade - who knows?
Want to come along?

WOMAN (smiles, shakes her head)
Only if I make it to the top of
Carousel.
(she holds up her hand)
Thirty -- and the big spin.

In her palm the crystal blinks, red, black. Francis nods, gives her
a half-squeeze.
FRANCIS
You're thirty -- already? I always
thought I was older than you -
(beat)
Well, give it a good try.

WOMAN (pleasantly)
You know I always have.

Another beautiful WOMAN joins them.

2ND WOMAN (to the first)
Sorry I won't be at Carousel tonight.
It's my Love-Shop turn.

WOMAN
That's all right. Happy turn.

2ND WOMAN
You'll renew. I've got a feeling.

WOMAN (smiles)
So do I...but if I don't at least I'll
have the ultimate thrill. I'd almost
rather have that than renew.

2ND WOMAN
I feel the same way. Sometimes I think
I'm not even going to try and renew when
my time comes. But -- that's three years away.
So long.

The 2nd Woman walks away.

FRANCIS (after a beat;
to first Woman)
It's been nice.

WOMAN
Um-huh.

They look briefly and then she turns away. Francis takes Logan's arm
and they move off.

FRANCIS
I guess you never had her?

Logan shakes his head.

FRANCIS
You missed something special.

My best recollection as to what station it was is ITV Edmonton Channel 13 Cable 8. ITV was an independent station that joined Albertan airwaves with CTV plus the English and one French CBC channel in 1974. ITV became part of Global Television Network in 2000. I believe they still operate the original studio and broadcasting centre. ITV was once the goto channel for Sci-Fi themed programming on weekend afternoons.

What happened with the movies in the old days was distributors typically submitted films to the Canadian CRTC unedited or uncut. The CRTC was very relaxed back then plus a bit on the lazy-side and usually didn't snip out anything from movies. Requested prints or videotapes of could still be edited for television by whichever station doing the actual broadcasting. I heard all this discussed once on an ancient radio-show in mind-numbing detail.

CTV broadcasted Logan`s Run for the TV premiere; although, I think it was a kind of time-shifted simulcast of the CBS cable feed/US TV edit with CTV filling in the commercial slots. The CBC rarely broadcast popular or recent Hollywood movies back then. Most likely it was ITV and especially when it came to re-airing slightly older movies often. I also watched Saturn 3 somewhat unedited and about certain as memory allows it was on ITV too.

Love to see the movie studio find a copy someday soon.

That's what some of us are working for...

If it was broadcast in the early 80`s maybe someone taped it on Betamax/VHS and still has it somewhere.

One would think.

I've done a little investigation of my own concerning the identities of the two women from the example deleted scene.

Here's another deleted actress identified, for fans:

Cheeks:
MAN: Well? How do you like it?

WOMAN: (critically) I don't know. The cheeks maybe... look a little -

MAN: Cheeks? Cheeks? Right. Too much, you think?

WOMAN: Too little.

MAN: Too little? (gestures) Too little. Okay, wait for me.

And he darts back into NEW YOU #483.
The woman shrugs, glances around, smiles and goes off with a passer-by.

Erin can also be seen modelling a Logan's Run dress costume (wearing a similar one, except in light-green) for a Bill Thomas fashion show. And just before David Hasselhoff with another woman. The segment is from a 1975 MGM studio press tour short documentary film. Farrah Fawcett and Erin both belonged to the same modelling agency.

Erin's trivia selection has been updated and should show soon. I met 'Colonel Deering' several years ago; unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to ask about her time with Logan's Run. It will be interesting to see if she refutes the claim. I realize that getting cut from a film can be a serious point of contention. I also know she pays some attention to her imdb profile.

Although, I usually do know Erin Grey when I see her and even despite having only somewhat distorted/blurry evidence to present readers on both counts. Plus, a fading memory, but I think I remember it right. However, if anyone does have a better copy of the deleted scene capture/still, please upload it here. Maybe it's really Victoria Hamel, after-all, in the case of the lost footage. ;P

I'm a French Canadian. I watched this movie for the first time last night. Had i know i would have taken a closer look. Will see if they reshow the movie this month.

Very sadly, I don't believe the extended version has aired for quite sometime now; although, if you do happen to see it please let us know here. And for the time-being, I have another (partly) deleted actress identified to add.

28 ARCADE - ANOTHER ANGLE - LOVE SHOP

Renie's make-up is similar to her Swinging Barmaids look in the B&W costume test; however, they elected to go lighter for actual filming.

A portion of the brief deleted scene can be found in the Advance Preview of Selected Scenes at the 1:32 mark. The same actress can also be seen within the Love-Shop bothering Jessica and holding some-type of toy (in the film).

Love-Shop Woman With Toy:

Renie Radich

All three main actresses from The Swinging Barmaids (1975) originally had small parts with dialogue. They also all had their lines cut; unfortunately, only Renie and Laura remain visible in the theatrical cut. Katie Saylor was cutout completely.

The Swinging Barmaids has a police identification scene similar in concept to Laura Hippe's own trimmed-down segment in New You 483. She was the only one to receive a film credit for Logan's Run.

Renie has been added to the uncredited cast and should appear soon.

Never saw an extended version.

Although I find deleted scenes and such very interesting and glad they exist, I am also glad they were cut to keep the movie on pace to deliver its story.
Gotta say, I'm not to worried about finding little tidbits that never made it into the final movie. It's kinda neat, but the final movie is the best of it and shall remain as is. There is probably hours of trashed film parts that were cut. Adding them back in doesn't really help an already tight edit.

Seen too many "director's cuts" that added pointless, boring length to movies and either slowed or derailed the story since it didn't fit anyway.
At least we got LOGAN'S RUN in a decent Blu-Ray finally.

It's better to have the extended version available, instead of simply being a point of trivia for anyone that hasn't seen it and wants to. They can decide for themselves which version works better. The extended version is a stronger cut of the film, in my opinion. Furthermore, upon the off-chance Warner Bros. finds the extended version; it should be put into serious NFPB consideration. And for being culturally, historically, plus aesthetically significant. The film has endured for this long and it's due for a full examination as to why. A complete restoration of the extended version would assist in regard to that matter, perhaps the best.

Logan's Run: The Renewal Cut (1976/2018) Tagline: Be strong, and you will be renewed. ;)

Also, I agree Warner's Blu-Ray is fantastic. I recommend it to anyone considering adding it to their collection. I'm quite sure there are oodles of fans that would warmly welcome a near future UHD edition, too. I really like the packaging of the latest edition available (Premium Collection BLU-RAY/DVD/Digital HD) in the UK, and includes LE art-cards, nice touch.

Unfortunately, the imdb message boards will be closed permanently effective February 20th. I'm considering duplicating what I've posted on this message board along with anything new, someplace else. I will still update the film's imdb profile, with future cast additions and please look in the photos selection for visual reference (official stills only), etc. There several more reveals and the most surprising of them all is yet to come. At least six more out of a total twelve. And to recap: Virginia Ann Ford (Beautiful Woman on Last Day), Katie Saylor (Love-Shop Turn Woman), both deleted from:

The Great Hall (restored):

And then Erin Grey (Woman Outside New You), plus Renie Radich (Love-Shop Woman with Toy). There's also a chance I've seen Erin somewhere else, but in the theatrical version. It does look to me she may be the first woman that attempts to tangle with Logan in the Love-Shop. I am aware of the identities of the pair that make a grab at him afterwards; one of them being Ashley Cox (Timid Girl). And of which, I've updated in the film's trivia selection in regard to Ashley's Love-Shop turn. Anyway, it's likely I can say, but only at 4K. No amount of enhancement easily resolves this particular case at 1080p.

Also, from another thread, Cheryl 'Rainbeaux' Smith which was the Screamer Party Woman (previously unlisted as uncredited). And although the woman she shares the scene with is 'laughing' (also spraying a bottle of something). I believe when Logan jokes about their romp with these women 'the kicker' he refers to is likely in reference to Candice's character. And so maybe she is the Kicker Party Woman. Candice is presently listed as 1st. Screamer in Logan's Apartment; however, there is no 'first' screamer through the door (in together arm in arm with Francis). This one was the kicker and the other was the screamer, remember?

HOLLY 13: Yes, yes she was kicking him. I remember. He was kicked in the head and went fruit loops over Logan's run.

Michael York more recently shared that Richard Jordan often joked on-set that his character Francis was 'fruit loops', funny.

It's time for another newly identified deleted actress (no proper script reference available). The Hallucimill footage was among what was cut to obtain a PG rating from the MPAA:

Hallucimill Woman:

Lynne Frederick

Lynne's trivia selection has been updated and should show soon.

And for anyone wondering why I've decided to identify these cast members here. The reason is related to something William F. Nolan said in an interview about Logan's Run being a society that doesn't get the benefit of having anything passed down from their elders (in the way we do); as everyone must die so very young. And so mote it be, something only I can do and can pass down to fellow fans, right-now. Unless of course, someone happens to have the 'master list' handy. I realize there are those that cannot fully appreciate this; although, most fans know what's new that's old is pure gold. As well, is of extremely rare trivia that is being shared freely.

I would also like to give a thumbs-up to both Greathall75 and John for these recreations of several deleted scenes. Also, everything else they've done plus shared with all the people, all the time and over all the years. These videos utilize portions of a fan audio recording of the May 1976 Advance Sneak Preview in San Diego. Plus, special thanks to Vikki for her incredibly informative City of the Domes media rich website. All that gleams is chrome, from real fans that have been in love with the film for over 40 years, now.
