Terrible costume design.

The costume design is all over the period map - from 1932 to 1942 to, well, 1976!

Really, it's only been on for an hour and I've seen women wearing those white satin dresses that were all the rage in the early thirties, the costumes from "Casablanca" (1942), and things that a gal could have worn to work in 1976, when the film was made.

Since I assume this movie was made to appeal to the sort of person who liked old movies, I can't believe how careless they were on that front.

When Monroe is in the poolhouse near the end of the movie, there's a bunch of photos on the wall which reeeaaaallllyyy don't look era-appropriate. I mean, it just sticks out so much.

Yes, I noticed those too. I believe the woman in them is actually Theresa Russell, who is in the room during the scene with DeNiro and the pictures can be seen hanging on the wall in the background. They are probably from her modeling career - and her poses, the expressions on her face, the fact that she is wearing a football jersey in one or two of them - really do not look right for it supposedly being the mid-1930s.
