"It WILL be great oil..." scientific accuracy?


When Rene Auberjonois's character tells Grodin on the beach that the oil they found isn't quite ready for primetime, I don't understand what would be wrong with it. Wouldn't the existence of petroleum of any kind be an indicator that oil deposits were near, plus it would also be useful for all other industrial uses, like the production of tar for instance.

It takes millions of years for oil to evolve for use as energy. Oil is the remains of ancient fish and other sea creatures, plants, algae, and bacteria.
