The best remake. Jackson's version was a live action comic book.

The 1970s remake wasn't perfect but it was a million times better than that piece of CGI-crap put out by Jackson. I'm amazed the movie wasn't panned for that awful dinosaur stampede sequence alone.

This version also fixed the storytelling problems of the first movie, which were ridiculous and implausible. Jackson's version took the original's flaws and magnified them. The only good thing I can say about it is that it cast someone as unconventional looking as Adrian Brody as the leading man.

Yes, nothing about Jackson's version -- dodgy CGI dinos and all -- could top the sheer fun of watching an obvious guy in a gorilla suit tearing apart a rubber snake.

I know it's become a cliche to hate on CGI nowadays, but having re-watched this 1976 version, I feel there really is something to the idea that the best, most memorable effects are done on camera. Kong never looked more menacing than he does in this movie, especially he was busting through the door on the island. That scene used to terrify me as a kid and it still does. In Jackson's Kong, I almost feel like I'm watching Naomi Watts interact with a Pixar character. I simply don't feel the threat or the awe from something that wasn't really there in front of the camera.

I saw this one in the theater. Yes, it's a good remake, which is very unusual as far as remakes go. Good actors, WTC instead of the Empire State, etc. Of course the original's the original, but this is definitely worth seeing.
