Kongfrontation Kong models...

Since they took that attraction out of the Universal Studios Orlando theme park, anyone know what they did with the Kong models used in the ride? I loved how it was based on Kong '76. Totally took me back to when I was a little kid in the 80s when it was on HBO almost everyday. I got the chance to go to California twice, luckily I experienced their Kong atraction as well before it burned down.

But back to my initial query, what became of Orlando Kong?

Dont know about Orlando, but didnt the one in LA burn up in the fire?

reply

Yes, it burned down a few years ago along with the Back to the Future town square, which at the time was being used for Ghost Whisperer. I was working at a movie company based on the Universal back lot at the time of the fire and everyone got a day off due to health concerns because of smoke. Universal has a new 3-D Kong attraction now based on the crappy Peter Jackson remake. I haven't seen it but I plan on checking it out to see if it's better than Jackson's movie... which won't be hard. Heck, the 1976 film is better than Jackson's movie!

I guess I'll try this again, please if any one has any info it'd be appreciated.

But back to my initial query, what became of Orlando Kong models from the Kongfrontation ride after it shut down?

"No my brotha, you got ta buy yo OWN!"

They are in storage at the park back lot. Same with Back to the Future. The old Hard Rock Cafe building has a lot of the old rides.

Coolness, good to know they're not gone forever. I wish they could bring those rides back.

I'm also glad to know they still exist. I wonder if they are kept in a partially or wholly assembled state? I believe one of the animatronic models was 39 feet tall and weighed 13,000 pounds and another was the same height, but lighter at only 8,000 pounds. That ride scared me pretty good in my one trip to Universal back in 1990 or 1991, but looking back now, it was a very impressive experience.
