Kong stepping on (spoilers)

i just watched this film recently, and it was seemingly an uncut version. No commercials... swear words left in, etc....

But the scene where Kong steps on Grodin.... i thought i remembered from my childhood that you see after Kong's foot moves away, you see poor Grodin's safari hat sticking out of the ground, as if the man was pile-drived straight down into the earth... It was almost comical... just his hat remained.

However the cut i saw the other nite... the scene cuts aways, with Kong's foot still obscuring everything... You don't see any aftermath.

Was this a false memory i have about the hat? I imagined what happened to him, and now i mistake that for an actual memory? Does any one else have a recollection about his hat just sitting there, and maybe they cut it out, for some reason?
