Terrible movie... I wanted to turn it off and just watch 'Jaws' again
I don't remember the last time bad acting in a horror movie has bothered me so much. I can usually tolerate acting if it's dated, as in those Romero movies, but I can't stand it when the actors are LAUGHING when running away from a killer bear when they're supposed to be screaming. The lady that Christopher George is dating in the movie is probably the worst; her performance relies 100% on the dialogue in the screenplay! She doesn't make the dialogue her own; she just recites her lines word for word, and it shows.
Everybody knows that the movie is a Jaws rip-off, but that's literally all it is: a rip-off of the same manipulative techniques of that film. There's a reason why Jaws is one of the best films ever made, and it's not just because of its shock value: it actually takes the three principle characters and takes all the time in the world to establish them as little more than action movie stereotypes. They even try to redo Shaw's Indianapolis speech with that speech about the Native Americans devoured by bears, but the only reason it's in the movie at all is because the movie requires a speech of some sort. That's it. Further proof that the filmmakers who followed Jaws were getting Spielberg all wrong.
What I don't understand is how we're going to stay alive this winter.
