Terrible movie... I wanted to turn it off and just watch 'Jaws' again

I don't remember the last time bad acting in a horror movie has bothered me so much. I can usually tolerate acting if it's dated, as in those Romero movies, but I can't stand it when the actors are LAUGHING when running away from a killer bear when they're supposed to be screaming. The lady that Christopher George is dating in the movie is probably the worst; her performance relies 100% on the dialogue in the screenplay! She doesn't make the dialogue her own; she just recites her lines word for word, and it shows.

Everybody knows that the movie is a Jaws rip-off, but that's literally all it is: a rip-off of the same manipulative techniques of that film. There's a reason why Jaws is one of the best films ever made, and it's not just because of its shock value: it actually takes the three principle characters and takes all the time in the world to establish them as little more than action movie stereotypes. They even try to redo Shaw's Indianapolis speech with that speech about the Native Americans devoured by bears, but the only reason it's in the movie at all is because the movie requires a speech of some sort. That's it. Further proof that the filmmakers who followed Jaws were getting Spielberg all wrong.

What I don't understand is how we're going to stay alive this winter.

Somehow you have made me want to see this film now. I like the idea that the actors are laughing inappropriately and the director didn't order second, third, fourth, etc. takes and the editor kept it in. Speaking of Jaws ripoffs, if you haven't seen it here's an infamous piece of dialogue from a little movie called Shark Attack 3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1XOfHax6Q8.

EDIT: I found a some clips of Grizzly on YouTube. The horse decapitation scene is hilarious.

I DVR'd it off TCM Underground & almost didn't finish it myself. It didn't even have that "so bad, its good" charm a lot of the early & mid 70s films had (in particular the many Italian horror productions).

As another thread subject reads, its basically "Jaws with Paws"...and a $h!tty version of Jaws at that!

Not to mention (according to the trivia) that crook of a Producer Montoro didn't want to pay the director or writers their share of the profits after this ripoff made $39 mill...basturd!

Yeah, I'm sorry but I can not agree with you at all.

First of all, if you want bad acting, why don't you check out a Todd Sheets film, or something on Camp Video's label? You'll see that the acting is much better in movies like Grizzly.

I love Jaws, but I tend to stay away froms tudio movies because of how overrated they become, including Jaws. Sure, it's a great movie, but it's not like the same people who made GRIZZLY couldn't have just as well made Jaws, or the same actors having done those performances.

Look, it's cool if you don't like the movie, but your summary sounds really, really superficial.

Yeah, I saw it when it was first released, and watching it on TCM reminded how BAD the movie is. A complete and shameless rip-off of "Jaws", and a vastly inferior one, at that.
And the blatant connections,
Gee, one of the things the bear used to kill is his jaws!!
And that silly speech about Native Americans being killed by bears, give it a rest!
A total dud of a movie, not even worth the electricity to power the TV.

I never saw this when it first came out. It is one of the worst movies ever made. Waste of money, terrible script and laughable directing. Technically it was a joke and full of errors.

Caught it last night.

I laughed for five minutes after the bear went up in a massive fireball ... That scene clearly influenced the end of "Death Wish 3"!

And the horse decapitation ... !
