What do you think about this? *SPOILERS*
In the Special Features of the DVD, William DeVane recalls suggesting that Hitchcock walk down the stairs at the end of the film and deliver the wink himself, instead of Barbara Harris. DeVane states that Hitchcock thought about for about fifteen minutes before declining.
I think that, even though it would have drawn the audience out of the story, it would have been a nice gesture to his fans, had he known this would be his final film. In fact, I think that had he known this was going to be his final film, he might have taken William DeVane's suggestion.
