Trash

This movie was pure garbage. One of the most annoying movies I have seen since my unfortunate viewing of House Of 1000 Corpses. This guy Tobe Hooper doesn't seem to know how to make a movie. Besides his TCM luck he hasn't done anything worth five cents. I think I hate him.

Well that's nice to know.

I agree his films arent top notch after TCM but i still enjoy some of them, well the slashers anyway. TCM, TCM 2, Eaten Alive, Funhouse, Toolbox murders

For my money, it doesn't get any better than when he sings "When a Man Loves a Woman".

I agree. This movie was so terrible and I didn't understand some of the parts but that is okay, I don't care. I couldn't get through half of this movie before I turned it off. I now know that after seeing this and Funhouse I won't be watching any more of Tobe Hooper's movies.

what about poltergeist? that wasnt too shabby at all

reply

I totally agree with you (except for the comment about House of 1000 Corpses) this movie sucked pretty bad.

Just seeing 1970's style boobies made it better than the trash they make these days. Long live drive-in movies !

reply

yes, this movie is pure trash........I love it!!

Not a "great" movie, but overall I enjoyed it. A bizarre Neville brand performance, William Finley, the weird red lighting, Janus Blyth.... fun times.

reply

it was kind of ... stupid. Sorry.
but that redneck hotel owner's performance was pretty weird and funny
and it was hilarious when Buck was eaten by that crocodile. Got what he deserved.
so I give the movie 3 out of 10 stars just for Neville

I actually really, really enjoy this film. It has a sleazy, grimy atmosphere about it that makes it feel distinctive from many other horror films. I also loved the use of color and thought it contributed greatly to the mood of the film. The cast is also wonderful. It's like a who's who of horror/cult film actors. Tobe Hooper did a great job of this film and also several others such as Poltergeist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Salem's Lot, and The Funhouse. I would put all of those movies in a list of my favorites and although you could argue his talent isn't as good as it used to be, the films I listed above are definitely worthy enough contributions to the horror genre that he could be considered a legend of the genre.

Also, it's funny that you should mention House of 1000 Corpses because I actually thought while watching this film that it would probably be similar to the results if Rob Zombie were to attempt to remake Psycho.

I've been waiting for you, Ben.

This. I bought today that 2 DVD SE edition DVD from a friend (he had copy of it for some reason) and just checked it out again after (first time I've seen it was on VHS).

first half was a bit downer (I hated the puppy scene, it nearly made me depressed), it's not one of those energetic horror movies like original F13th movie for example, it's more like "Don't go in the House" type of horror. It's not even particularly gory, it just violent (kinda like TCM, no gore, but violent as hell)... but heck, it's a well made movie, but my guess is that it's mood turn many people off.

most of the characters are kinda bad people (noir maybe?), there's no defined hero of the story when you think about it, serial killer Jud is kinda the lead character of the movie, but there's no definite "good guy" or "final girl".

Weird and bizarre performance by Neville Brand.

It's interesting that father and Robert Englund's character seem to be equally crazy as the serial killer, even tho they are suppose to be "normal" people.
