enjoyable nostalgia

I do not understand some of the comments about this film.
It is neither a classic or a lemon, something in between.
This film seems to be on tv a lot.
It makes me think of when I was younger, since first seeing this film on tv I have studied history at university so know that the background stuff which did not interest me as a kid is fairly accurate.
The story is stolen from WENT THE DAY WELL but that does not worry me.
One of the comments says that he does not understand why the Germans dress as Poles, well the Poles were on our side and the Germans were not so it is easier for the Germans to pretend to be another foreign nationality than to pretend that they are from Britain.
I think in WENT THE DAY WELL they pretend to be British, which is daft because it is so much easier to blow their cover.
For the benefit of our American friend Poland was attack by Germany on 1 Sept 1939 ,and by the Russian a few days later, while they lost the battle for Poland ,Polish soldiers, sailors and airmen came to Britain to continue the fight against Germany.
The Poles had a good fighting record in world war 11,this is even shown in films such as THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN and A BRIDGE TOO FAR.
Bitain and France had declared war on Germany on 3 September 1939 to show their support for Poland.
Britain had thousands of troops from the occupied european countries and from the empire training in Britain from 1939/1940.
Our American cousins of course did not get involved until December 1941.
