Michael Caine's character manages to get into the grounds of the building where Churchill is being guarded by pretending to be an American soldier. He gets in close range of Churchill at the same moment that the Americans realize what's going on. They shoot him dead but not before he manages to shoot Churchill. Turns out that "Churchill" is actually a lookalike, designed to fool people while the real Churchill is off having a conference with Roosevelt and Stalin.
Meanwhile, Donald Sutherland's character gets off scot-free, with him wandering away, although exactly where he's going is left untold.
In the (book) sequel, it turns out Steiner is not dead, and Devlin and some others fly in and rescue him, and escape to Ireland.
Cop: Stop right there!
Crow (as man with gun): Its too late! I'm not there anymore!
Col. Radl (Robert Duvall's character) was executed under Himmler's orders by the soldiers who arrested him.

Molly and Devlin did not consummate their relationship and they broke up.
I'm guessing Molly married that villager guy because she knew he could be punched about pretty easily. And Devlin probably went back home and became an Irish jig dance instructor.

shareNah, that minister would never marry them. She probably hooked up with that gravedigger guy since he seemed to be one of the few villagers who had a steady job- all the other industry in town was pretty much blown up.
