shareThis should be remade as tv mini-series to allow the story more time to breath (as in the novel); for which I'd suggest Sean Bean as Steiner and Paul McGann as Devlin (Sutherland is hopelessly miscast in the film).
sharewhy do you people all want remakes? The original still kicks @$$....
sharethat sounded more like a nightmare to me, how did u dream up that.
A movie that is perfect and that you wanna remake. How do you think russel crow can messure up to a actor like Micheal Cain. ???
Forget this, this is a perfect movie.
I second that. Great movies stay great and don't need remakes. Hollywood better work on new, original scripts and not constantly redo everything from the past.

There's plenty of potential in the book that the original film completely fails to capitalise on; that's why it should be remade.

Because these people think better SFX and making the movie Hip (so as to appeal to the ignorant demographic) is the only way a movie can be seen as good. I don't get why it's so hard to ask for something original. Almost every board for movies 5+ years old you will find atleast 2 post wanting remakes.
I'll take you ALL ON!

i think there should be a remake. i loved the book and a lot of the st67ory was cut in the theatrical version. i think to keep the movie from dragging along. a lot of other stuff was added to the movie that wasnt in the book. like joanna was a lot younger in the movie. in the book joanna grey was close to 70 years old. the american captain wasnt named clark his name was harry kane. the generals name wasnt pitts it was shafto. grey didnt kill arthur in the book. steiners cover name was mueller in the movie it was howard carter in the book. molly was 17 not 19. two kids fell into the water not one. joanna shot pamela but pamela locked her up in the basement. there was a lot of stuff missing or either added that i could also mention. like steiner second in command was ritter neuman. they took out the whole part of prestons character i think would have been integral in the movie. but as far as recasting the movie. i think admiral radl should be played by either max von sydow, john voit, bruce willis or even robert duvall again. steiner is the star of the movie. so u need somebody big for that role. if heath ledger was alive he would have been perfect. i wouldnt want an american actor to play steiners role unless its somebody whos convincing. russell crowe and hugh jackman are too old. has to be somebody in their late twenties or early 30's. jude law is a possibility. matt damon is an option. but hes american. as for devlin, colin ferrel would be perfect. hes the only person that could pull that role off. joanna grey should be played naturally by helen mirren. Harry Kane is yong too and should be a compliment to whom ever plays steiner. somebody like paul walker or maybe lesser known person like channing tatum. molly could be played by hayden panitierre or maggie grace or pretty much anybody. pamela verker im thinking the same. her role isnt that big. but preston in the movie. should be some sniveling, traitorous weasel type character. his role should be brought out and a good actor should play him.
shareI'm all for a remake, this could be a cracking thriller once again.
Let's face it, the original wasn't exactly flawless.
Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.
I'm happy with the original but would not be in any way against a remake, here's my cast:
Damian Lewis - Steiner
Colin Farrell - Devlin
Carey Mulligan - Molly
James Badge Dale - Capt Clark
Christian Berkel - Radl
Laurence Fox - Capt Von Neustadt
Celia Imrie - Joanna Grey
Stanley Tucci - Himmler
Thomas Kretschman - Admiral Canaris
Tom Hollander - Father Vereker
Miranda Raison - Pamela
And
Philip Seymour Hoffman As Col Pitts
You could even update it, have some suitable American soldiers (all Muslims maybe) inserted into Pakistan to kidnap Bin Laden, or a group of terrorists playing US marines in the US to kidnap the US president,
or even keep it WW2 and have an allied effort to kidnap Hitler. Just a thought.
Not the worst idea I've heard, but I think it would be difficult to make work.
This works because there are sympathies and cultural identification on both sides. I think most people watching Americans act as Pakistanis wouldn't get any (very necessary) cultural nuances. Either that, or they (the film makers) would totally botch the fact that Pakistan isn't just another suburb of New York and not take notice of cultural differences.
So, I feel it would either be a Michael Bay stuff up, or too high brow for the intended audience.

I would set the remake in the world of rock and roll, circa 1977. Elvis Presley is the target. Fat, bloated Elvis in his last days bore a remarkable physical resemblance to Winston Churchill, even if he lacked the PM's dignity, gravitas, intelligence, and so on.
And the people who want Elvis dead? Clearly it's the Vatican, seeking revenge for the way Elvis upstaged and humiliated the Little Catholic Singers on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1956.
To get close to Elvis, to get inside, the Church needs an Irishman who's secretly a fanatical Catholic yet appears to be a true-blue rock and roller. This would be Bono of U2, in the Liam Devlin role. Bono's partner in crime would be Bruce Springsteen. He's the Kurt Steiner character, the man of honor forced to take on a disagreeable job for the larger good -- redeeming rock and roll by killing the corruption at its very core.
While Springsteen and his E-Street band are performing "maneuvers" in the street in front of Graceland, Bono saunters down Beale Street, picking a fight with B.B. King and wooing Aretha Franklin in song. At the climactic moment, a chance passerby spots the crucifix Bono is wearing under his black leather jacket and sounds the alarm. Bono attempts to escape by diving into the Mississippi, only to be eaten by the world's largest catfish. Meanwhile, Bruce Springsteen storms the walls of Graceland alone, only to discover that the real Elvis died on the toilet early that morning. Mortified by the truth about his hero, Springsteen commits hara-kiri while the poor black folk on Beale Street have a catfish barbecue and throw Bono's remains into the fire. THE END!
